Empowerments
An empowerment (Tib. wang) is a ritual ceremony through which a qualified Vajrayana Buddhist master confers initiation. Empowerments are given to ripen the mind for practice. Receiving an empowerment is a blessing, but also a responsibility. The teacher is investing in the student. Frequently the master gives samaya (commitment), requiring the student to regularly perform the practice and/or mantra accumulation.
