Lama Tours

The guru-disciple relationship is essential to the Vajrayana Buddhism practiced in Mongolia. While the Mongols have done their best to preserve some lineages in secret during the 70 years under Communist rule, much has been lost. Mass executions during the 1930’s religious purges deliberately targeted the most educated and accomplished Mongolian lamas. Many of the practice lineages lost in Mongolia were preserved by the Tibetan Buddhists. Mongolian Buddhism will be immeasurably strengthened by sponsoring teaching tours of lineage-holding lamas who can once again give the proper initiations and instructions for accomplishing the practices.

dalaiWhen His Holiness the Dalai Lama visited Mongolia in the summer of 2006, he conducted a public initiation that is usually only conferred privately for just a handful of select disciples. One reason he cited was the extraordinary devotion and faith demonstrated by Mongolian Buddhists, a quality that is essential for pure Vajrayana practice.

jetsunma-and-erdenebat-wsAn integral part of the MBRP is to facilitate tours of Mongolia by Nyingma masters. Jetsunma Ahkon Lhamo has received and accepted formal invitations from Khamar and Erdene Zuu Monasteries to visit and teach. Plans are being made for her to go to Mongolia in the near future, accompanied by senior Palyul lamas. His Holiness Penor Rinpoche has advised her to go when all the indications and conducive circumstances have come together in the most auspicious way.
