For as long as humans have been present on the earth there have
been individuals who have changed the world for the better.
Many of these agents of profound change are "every day people"
like you and I and many are world leaders. They all display courage
and bravery well beyond the ordinary in order to promote peace
and compassion for the good of mankind.
The Power of One celebrates and
invites the coming forth of the hidden strength in all people
to take action that can make a difference for the betterment
of all beings.
As examples of courage and compassion in the face of enormous
hardships, we can look to the enlightened masters of Tibet. Forced
to leave their homeland—their families and centuries old
monasteries destroyed—the great masters of this tradition
have nonetheless come to the West to stand up and speak for living
a life of kindness that thinks only of the welfare of others.
These masters are called tulkus who intentionally
take rebirth for the sole purpose of ending the suffering of sentient
beings no matter the personal costs.
That's what they have vowed to do lifetime after
lifetime until there is no more suffering. They are undeniably
extraordinary examples of the Power of One individual
to change the world.
Jetsunma
Ahkon Lhamo is one such traditionally recognized tulku
who has intentionally taken birth at this time as a Western woman.
Raised in the culture of the United States, she has a street-wise,
unique perspective on the specific needs of Westerners.
Her broad vision reflects the "anything's possible"
spirit of this country. Over the last twenty years much has been
accomplished to benefit beings through her inspiration and dedication
to the ending of suffering.
The Power of One effort reflects
her and her student's determination to build sacred places of
spiritual refuge here in the US and eventually around the world.
By participating in the Power of One, people
from every part of the globe can make a huge difference. Your
voice, your action, your power is needed now more than ever.
In the words of the late Margaret Meade: “Never doubt that
a small group of committed citizens can change the world. Indeed,
it's the only thing that has.”
Imagine what an entire movement of people can do.
The human race is at a crossroads. We must urgently empower each
of us…people of all ages and beliefs… to live compassionately
with tolerance, kindness and a loving heart. Isn't it time to
live from our inner spiritual qualities and finally make caring
for others more important than our own small desires? It is difficult
to accomplish alone, but together we are a force for change.
The Power Of One is designed to create a compassion
network—person by person, friend by friend—of people
who have looked around at the suffering in the world and in their
hearts have said, “Enough is enough. We must do something.
Conventional wisdom isn't working.”
The Power Of One Campaign supports the vision
of:
- creating sacred centers where the potent spiritual technology
of Tibetan Buddhism is practiced in order to transform this
world and end suffering
- sustaining and expanding 24-hour prayer efforts resulting
in an unending wave of virtue that is dedicated to peace in
the world,
- building sacred stupas, like the one pictured above, renowned
for dispelling negativity and conflict while creating harmony,
peace and prosperity for over 2500 years, and
- offering teachings, workshops, retreats, and outreach programs
that provide proven methods of transformation and healing that
are so desperately needed in our world.
- establishing and supporting compassionate outreach programs
that help sentient beings in need and provide outlets for people's
desire to be of service.
The world needs sacred centers, now more than ever... where real
change takes place, one person at a time... from the inside out.
Places where people can begin to understand how all life is sacred,
each one of us... equal in our nature and deserving of respect.
And how compassionate action results in true and lasting happiness
for all beings.
Please take action now to ensure that the compassionate outreach
programs below continue to flourish and expand and function as
models for future sacred centers… bringing more and more
benefit to a suffering world.

These activities, all based on peace and compassionate action
are changing the lives of the people involved. With your help
we can make them grow and thrive. As you can imagine, constructing
sacred centers and supporting compassionate activities is very
expensive. We are fully utilizing the resources of the local membership
and have also received help from many people around the world.
Yet more is needed.
Now we must reach out beyond our borders. And that is the job
of the Power of One - to find all ther people
in the world who think like you do, that sacred centers and compassion
based programs can benefit all beings and even change the direction
the world is heading in.
We need your help. How? There are three ways to exercise your
Power of One:
Declare
the power of your one voice. Join the "Power
of One Compassion Network." By joining you are simmply adding
your "voice of one" to the Compassion Network and declaring
that you recognize the need to bring forth peace and compassion
in the world. You have the power to do it.
Ask
others to declare their power. Who are the people
in your personal network who believe like you do that peace and
compassion are needed in this world? These are the people who
know in their hearts that sacred centers and compassion based
programs are an answer to the worlds problems. Tell them about
the Power of One Compassion Network and ask them to declare their
power as well. If you tell only one person about this compassion
network, you will have doubled your power. If you tell ten people...the
power is awesome.
Add
the power of your dollar. Please contribute a gift
of any amount - one dollar or whatever moves you. When you add
financial power to your voice you'll be helping to grow all the
programs we have described here. Your contribution will help build
the Sacred Center in Sedona and support the compassionate activities
listed above.
When you and your friends... and thousands more... take action
in this way, you will be spreading your power across the globe...
creating an unstoppable, powerful force for peace and compassionate
action, to make strong and indestructible the universal ideals
of Peace, Harmony, Tolerance, Love, Compassion and Non- Violence.
Please help by spreading this Power of One message
to your family and friends and everyone you know of like mind...
anyone you know who is interested in peace... and putting an end
to suffering in the world.
Ask them to exercise their Power of One.

"As the stupa represents the Enlightened Mind, the person
who contributes to the construction who gives, who sacrifices
something of his wealth, of his person or of his very desires,
makes an act of renunciation and succeeds, at least in that
very moment, in putting others before himself.-Guiseppe Tucci

[Power of One] appeals
to my core value of peace. I also think the programs mentioned
appeal to a wide range of people and therefore, have great potential
for affecting positive change. The name of the project, The Power
of One, (one person, one dollar, ....) also resonates with me.
Finally, any group that can keep a prayer vigil going for YEARS
has my support.
