Volunteer Power

KPC operates on volunteer power. On a daily basis, volunteers maintain the temple and grounds, manage fund raising and finances, and generally keep things running. Occasionally, volunteers perform exciting special projects: since 1988, dozens of people have experienced the adventure of building a stupa. And, when the property at 18400 River Road was first acquired, carving a traditional Vajrayana temple out of a large, family residence required a small army of carpenters, painters, seamstresses, and artisans-all volunteers.

Volunteering, whether on a regular or occasional basis, is an important way to participate in temple activity. Think of your efforts as helping to stabilize the Dharma in the West-or as a way to cultivate friendships and new skills. Either way, we welcome you to participate in the community life of a group of dedicated volunteers.

Ways to Volunteer: Occasional

If you can pull weeds or push a vacuum cleaner, please come on out! You can learn about how to participate in a number of ways:

  • Write to us: kpc@tara.org, with “volunteer” in the subject line. Someone will get back to you.
  • Watch for volunteer calls in the KPC newsletter, the Mandala Messenger.
  • Show up and ask. You are always welcome at KPC. (When the Mani Jewel Gift Store is open, personnel may be able to connect you with the appropriate task or contact person.)

Ways to Volunteer: On-Going

People with skills are crucial to keeping KPC running smoothly. Specialized skills involved in running the organization include the following: construction, forestry, horticulture, ecology, administration, finance, fund raising, marketing, writing, web and document design, publishing, and information technology. (Usually tasks in these areas are managed by committed practitioners.) Your interest in participation will be much appreciated! If you are interested in contributing your skills on a continuing basis, we would love to hear from you. (See the list above for ways to learn more.)
