Kunzang Palyul Choling Maryland

Temple in Poolesville

KPC Maryland is a unique temple and monastery (living space for ordained monks and nuns) founded by Jetsunma Ahkon Lhamo under the guidance of His Holiness Penor Rinpoche. Located in Poolesville, Maryland, KPC includes the Temple, grounds and Peace Park and a small store. KPC Maryland offers a prayer room open to the public 24 hours a day, as well as 72 acres of pristine grounds that include sacred statues of Amitabha, five color gardens, in the traditional colors of Tibetan Buddhism, a large collection of sacred monuments called stupas in sizes ranging from several inches to 108 ft tall, and and mapped walking trails for meditation and exercise, contemplation, and prayers.

KPC Maryland holds daily group practices and a 24 hour prayer vigil that started in 1985. People of all faiths are welcome in the prayer room 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. There is a prayer request book where visitors can add names or situations to be read aloud during group practices. For a small donation, candles are available to offer on the various altars. For those new to the practices and chanting, assistance will be provided.  Additionally, parking for people with disabilities is provided.

Temple Building Project

We are in the midst of a Temple Building Project. See our vision for our future facility plan here.

Peace Park and Grounds

Located across the street from the main Temple, the Peace Park is a 65 acre wildlife refuge that is open to the public from dawn till dusk.  It includes miles of walking trails and meditation gardens, and many stupas, including the golden Migyur Dorje Stupa. Humans and their dogs on a leash are welcome.

A large statue of Amitabha, installed November of 2015, now graces the Temple front lawn, welcoming visitors with a small garden and path for circumambulation.

Please feel welcome to visit and make use of the Prayer Room, statues and stupas for meditation, prayers and offerings. KPC and its grounds are here for you.
