Meditation is a spiritual practice to calm the mind. People practice meditation for a variety or reasons that range from the ordinary to the extraordinary. Some meditate to lower blood pressure, reduce nervous tension and stress. Some meditate to connect more with their spiritual life. And some practice meditation to achieve enlightenment.
There are many ways to meditate. The way we teach beginning meditation here at KPC is to sit quietly with the spine straight and to focus one’s attention on the breath. The breath is a point of return. When you find yourself distracted by internal or external things, gently bring your attention back to the breath. Be patient with yourself, and don’t judge your practice. In order to reap the benefits of meditation, you have to practice everyday, even for three minutes. There are lots of ways to meditate. Choose one, persevere, and you will accomplish.
