Maryland Stupas

Maryland Stupas

Members of KPC have constructed 25 Stupas of varying sizes in and around the Temple grounds and in the Peace Park in rural Maryland near the nation’s capital.

The Enlightenment Stupa

This was the first stupa built at KPC Maryland.  It stands 36 feet tall, gleaming white against the backdrop of the lush Maryland forest.  Built in 1987 at the request of Jetsunma Ahkon Lhamo and consecrated (empowered) by His Holiness Penor Rinpoche, it imbues the Temple land with its sacred power.  Because it is located near Washington, DC, thousands of people from around the world come every year to visit and make offerings and prayers.

The Peace Park

The Peace Park, once wild forest, has been transformed into a mandala with walking trails connecting meditation gardens representing the five colors and five directions, The Stupa Park and the Migyur Dorje Stupa.  It is a place of pilgrimage open 365 days a year and free of charge to the public.  It offers a place of serenity and spiritual refreshment for people of all faiths.
